Road Trip 2011   Leave a comment

Our send off was a wonderful dinner prepared by our daughter, Alicia, shared with neighbors Eileen and Larry and Miss Janet. Great wine, great food and great friends.

Bill decided we needed to get up at 3:30 a.m. to prepare to leave which turned out to be a good idea. As we made our way to the Capital Beltway, the rain was coming down in buckets and there was a tornado “warning” in our area for the next 15 minutes and a tornado “watch” for another 5 hours.. The announcer on the radio said to get off the road. Hmmmm here we are in our 1 ton pickup truck towing our 20,000 RV.

We made it to the Maryland 52 mile marker on Route 68 when our truck overheated. Our first mountain…. Raining, cold, and the wind was blowing like crazy. It’s 7:30 am. The radiator blew the water out while climbing the mountain. I hope this isn’t an omen for our trip.

By the time we reached Savage Mountain, it was snowing like crazy. 33 degrees while back home, just under 200 miles, it’s 61 degrees.

Stopping at the top of Savage Mountain we had to add more water to the radiator. Too wet to tell where it’s leaking from so for the rest of the trip, we’ll be stopping to add water. Good thing we have an RV with running water.

Made it to our first destination to visit with Bill’s dad in 11 hours. It’s colder now than it was when we traveled in the Rocky Mountains last October. WHAT HAPPENED TO GLOBAL WARMING?
